Fancy a gourmet lunch cooked by one of Scotland's top chefs for a fiver?
For today only you can do just that as Nick Nairn’s Cook School at Back Wynd is transformed into a pop-up restaurant.
Running from 12 noon until 2.30pm, the special pop-up restaurant aims to showcase the best of Scottish produce while adding a hint of healthy competition.
Nick Nairn will go head to head with John Weber, group executive chef for Nairns, and Simon Gosling, head chef tutor at Nick’s Aberdeen cook school, to see who can plate up the perfect dish for just a fiver.
The £5 menu will see diners at the pop-up choose from Nick’s soup and sandwich combination, where the chef has prepared tomato chilli and basil or truffled celeriac for customers.
They can then choose from one of three sandwiches on stonebaked sourdough bread, with fillings including roast beef, rocket and horseradish cream, smoked salmon, Atlantic prawns, Hass avocado and cocktail sauce or home-cooked Ayrshire ham, Isle of Mull cheddar, plum tomato and pickle.
John will be aiming to win with his dish: parmesan-crusted smoked haddock and pea fishcakes with paprika mayonnaise, house salad and chorizo, red pepper and feta frittata with bravas sauce.
Simon plans to keep it simple with just one dish, a Moroccan lamb tagine served with Mediterranean cous cous and harissa.
Visitors to the pop-up will then be asked to pick their favourite £5 dish of the event, with the option to dine in or takeaway.
Nick said: "We believe Aberdeenshire has some of the best produce in the whole of Scotland and we are going to be using that to create three great dishes but it will be up to the public to decide which they prefer.
"We’ve priced each dish at just a fiver which must make it the best lunch bargain anywhere in Scotland, but when it’s gone it’s gone, so don’t wait too late." added Nick.
