Diners in Aberdeen will be able to take a culinary trip around the world next week as a new street food-style buffet opens its doors.
Shack, situated on Union Street, will take customers on an adventure across the globe in the basement restaurant which plans to open its doors by September 4.
Primarily focused on Asian food, the all-you-can-eat buffet will span numerous countries and continents to offer freshly cooked food at fixed prices for weekdays and weekends.
Project manager Toni Chan said: "The concept is an evolution of the all-you-can-eat buffet. The street food scene is everywhere and we wanted to add that to the restaurant.
"There is an element of rawness to the concept. We will have an open kitchen where people can see the preparation, the cooking, the sounds and smells. It offers the customer a new experience."
Featuring food from across Asia and the Far East with a 'street food twist’, diners can expect dishes from India, Singapore, Japan and Korea to be included on the menu.
Teppanyaki dishes and chargrilled meats will also feature, with a wood burning stove installed to create crisp pizzas.
Toni added: "We will also have our own pastry section where we will make fresh desserts every day."
Fitted with quirky design features from Maersk shipping containers lining the walls to gas canisters repurposed as urinals in the toilets and fake turf lining everything from the floors to the ceiling, Toni said Shack’s look was inspired by upcycling.
He said: "The design concept is all about recycling. It’s a very industrial looking design with retro fittings and is something never before seen in Aberdeen.
"Everyone who has come in so far from designers to suppliers has been amazed at the look."
Graffiti artist Robbie Batchelor has also taken to Shack’s walls with spray paint to create some stand-out feature pieces and murals to brighten the basement space, which customers can access via escalators and a lift at street level.
Shack will charge customers £7.99 and £13.99 for lunch and dinner during the week, with weekend prices fixed at £10.99 and £14.99.
During the first two weeks of trading the buffet restaurant will be offering customers a chance to dine out for half price, with a buy one get one free offer.
Toni added: "We hope that this will get people excited about Shack and get a lot of people interested in what we are doing."
