Are your scones feather-light, your cakes pillowy and brownies soft and fudgy?
If the thought of a little healthy competition doesn’t have you whipped into a frenzy, the news Aberdeen will host its very own Bake Off this month may make you spring for joy like a perfectly baked sponge.
Following the success of the Highland Bake Off, run by creative events agency We Are Giraffe, organiser Garry James has revealed the team plan to sift out the best baking talent in the north east with the baking challenge on September 27.
The rise in popularity of the sweet pastime coupled with the success of the BBC show of the same name has left Mr James seeking out the top baker in Aberdeen and Shire to win the top prize of a published cookbook and a product of the winner’s own design sold in a yet-to-be-confirmed bakery.
He said: "The Bake Off follows a similar format to the show. It starts at 10am and bakers undertake three different challenges which will be judged and the final will be live in front of an audience."
Held in a secret location, bakers will be transported to the surprise venue where they will undertake the different tasks set out by the events team.
Eager to test the baking prowess of the 20 selected bakers for the competition, entrants will be required to prove their knowledge of everything from choux to chocolate work.
Mr James added: "We want to test them with different techniques so with the Highlands event, we’ve asked bakers to make a celebration cake, then a batch of identical cookies and a signature loaf.
"The final challenge is very visual and we’ll ask them to decorate cupcakes, doughnuts and experiment with flavours and create something very visual that also tastes great."
Opening up entry to anyone over the age of 14, the Aberdeen Bake off costs £40 to enter to cover entry costs, venue and equipment hire as well as ingredients.
And with spaces snapped up for the Highland event in a matter of days, Mr James added interested bakers should dust off their aprons and get applying as soon as possible.
He said: "We’re looking for anyone to get involved. Bake Off is huge at the moment, it encourages people to get out there and bake and we want to find the very best bakers in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire."
