Brothers behind Banchory Beer Festival brew up more events

The brothers behind Banchory's biggest beer festival have revealed plans to bring back their popular winter event ahead of their first Inverurie festival.

Mungo and Guy Finlayson, who established the Banchory Beer Festival in 2014, are riding high following the success of their three-day summer event, selling out both Friday and Saturday sessions.

Now the beer-loving brothers will head north to host the first Inverurie Beer Festival on September 25 and 26, with ale fans already snapping up tickets for both Saturday afternoon and evening sessions.

Mungo said: "We’re taking the beer festival set up over to Thainstone at the end of the month and it will be largely the same as the summer festival.

"We’ll have a range of acoustic artists playing. We’re bringing back the gin and rum tent, which includes Scotland’s first rum, distilled in Banchory.

"The prosecco bar is back. It was a huge hit this summer and of course we’ll have a range of beers and ciders as well."

The popularity of the festival, which champions local producers of craft beers, gins and food suppliers, has also thrown a few curve balls at the pair, who acknowledge that the massive popularity of the Banchory Beer Festival in August resulted in transportation issues for visitors.

Adding that the problem will be addressed in time for the Inverurie Beer Festival, Mungo said: "We had issues with transport at Banchory Beer Festival this year and as a result of a festival-goer contacting Stagecoach, they will put on extra buses for our Inverurie event."

But the brothers have no plans to slow down their beer festival-organising fun, recently revealing winter festival Beer @ the Barn will return to Woodend Barn in Banchory on February 12 and 13 with tickets to be released in November.

And although specially brewed Koala T beer, created by Mungo and Guy specifically for the festival went down a treat with fans in August, the brothers plan to give brewing a break – until next summer at least.

For now, Mungo and Guy plan to focus their attention on their burgeoning business, adding that a recent nomination for best event or festival in the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards has been a real boost and reward for all their hard work.

Mungo said: "Between me and my brother we’ve started something that has grown to three festivals, something we hadn’t thought would happen when we set it up.

"The fact that in two years we’ve been nominated for an award is a welcome boost."
