The IMAX cinema experience could be coming to a theatre near you soon
Cineworld chiefs are currently in talks with landlords at Aberdeen's Union Square and Queen's Links over proposals to install the larger-than-life screens.
IMAX offers cinema goers an immersive cinema experience with higher picture and sound quality by using a curved screen to project movies in greater size and resolution.
The high-tech camera technology is favoured by directors such as Christopher Nolan who shot much of his sci-fi epic, Interstellar using the special 70mm IMAX film cameras.
Currently there are four IMAX screens in Scotland, all of which are owned by Cineworld. Glasgow has two of the giant screens with Edinburgh and Perth housing one each.
The screen at Glasgow's Science Centre is the largest in the country, with a specially designed theatre at the venue containing an enormous screen measuring an incredible 80ft wide by 60ft tall.
A Cineworld Spokesperson confirmed the company were seeking to expand the number of IMAX screens in Scotland. They said: “Here at Cineworld we continually review our cinema venues across the UK to ensure we provide the best in entertainment for local communities.
"We would really like to bring IMAX to Aberdeen and in this respect, we are in talks with our Landlords at both Union Square and Queens Link. As soon as we know, we will advise accordingly”
